My son, Scott, began cello lessons with Janet when he was 10 years old, after starting to play in primary school with a peripatetic teacher passing Grade 2. Janet taught him through many exam successes up to and including Grade 6 [for which he gained a distinction]. She nurtured him through the teenage ‘I want to give it up, its hard work’ stage, teaching him to play music he particularly liked until he decided to return to examination pieces. She also supported him throughout his music GCSE course work ensuring he was equipped with solo and ensemble pieces and entered him for The Royal Wootton Bassett Music Festival in 2013 and 2014 where he gained a judgement of commended in both years. In the 12 months prior to Janet leaving the area, she set up a ‘master class’ group of her higher grade pupils where they played for each other giving constructive feedback on pieces to help improve their public performances. This was especially helpful preparation for when, as a member of sixth form, he played a cello solo in Malmesbury Abbey during a Christmas concert. In January 2013 we approached Robin to see if he would be prepared to teach Scott double bass to get him started as he was extremely keen to take up a second instrument. Although Robin had never taught double bass before he accepted the challenge and taught Scott for over 2 years securing him exam successes in Grades 3 and 4. He also supported Scott when he played with the school orchestra ensuring he knew exactly when the bass part came in and how it should sound with the other instruments. In January 2014 Janet began to teach him piano and although it was only for a few months, he can now competently play simple melodies. It was a very sad day for our family when they both left the Wiltshire area as Scott had benefitted enormously from them both as music teachers and also as mentors in other areas of his life. They were, and are still, always interested in him as a person and his achievements as well him being a pupil. The results they achieved with him are fantastic and a true testament to their talent. They are both very modest about the extent of their capabilities and all I can say is that we found them both to be outstanding teachers and cannot speak highly enough of them!

I have known Robin for some 30 years (approx) and most of those have been taken up with piano lessons. Firstly he taught my children - my daughter reaching Gr.4 and my son Gr.2. -after which I took lessons myself and reached Gr.5.This included some theory lessons -although no exams were taken. I always found Robin to be very enthusiastic about his work - which most definitely helped to spur me on towards achieving my grades. In between times I was encouraged to play at leisure and seek out pieces of music of my own choice.Taking part in concerts - which was an annual event- also helped to build my confidence in performing. Overall - a great experience - delivered in a friendly and professional manner at all times.

From Mentee to Maestro To whom it may concern My son, was mentored by Janet Foulkes from the age of 7 to 18 years. Janet developed a good professional rapport, illustrating dedication and problem solving abilities, with a view to tailoring her pedagogy to the needs of her student. The family have always been impressed, by her patience, and kindness, which as a result, enabled my son to undertake a BA(Hons) in Music. We would recommend her to anyone contemplating learning the piano. We wish her and you the reader all the best for the future.

"Janet is a great teacher! Due to her teaching I was able to pass my Grade 7 piano exam. As a thorough teacher, Janet will always make sure that you are fully prepared before taking an exam. Overall, I had a wonderful time as a pupil, and would recommend Janet as a teacher to anyone!"
